Pheonix Equity Partners, a leading UK-based mid-market backer of founder-entrepreneur-owned businesses, has invested in Medmark, Ireland’s largest occupational healthcare provider. The investment will support organic growth, strategic acquisitions and service development.
Founded in 1987, Medmark supports more than half a million employees through a range of occupational health, health screening, workplace medical assessment and employee wellbeing services. Operating from nine locations across the island of Ireland, the company serves public and private sector organisations, helping employers to create safer and healthier workplaces.
“As demand continues to grow for occupational health, health screening and health surveillance services, we see significant opportunities to expand our contribution and continue delivering meaningful value for employees, employers, healthcare professionals and society more broadly,” said Dr Robert Ryan, CEO, Medmark.
Ryan and Paul O’Grady will continue to lead Medmark’s day-to-day operations and strategic direction, with Phoenix supporting the business through board-level involvement, capital investment and access to operational expertise to help accelerate growth and development initiatives.
“Each of our investments is underpinned by deep sector research and a strong belief in the founders’ vision, and we believe Medmark is well placed to benefit from growing demand for occupational health and workplace wellbeing services across Ireland,” said Barry Robinson, partner at Phoenix
Phoenix’s partnership with Medmark will help the organisation accelerate strategic initiatives already underway. This includes expanding its clinical and operational teams, investing in technology and digital health platforms, enhancing customer reporting and service delivery, and broadening its geographic reach. The investment will also support Medmark in pursuing complementary acquisition opportunities and developing new services.
The deal builds on Phoenix’s decades of experience in the healthcare space, joining investments such as Envisage, a UK dental group dedicated to private dentistry, in 2019 and London Gynaecology in 2024.
Our investment reflects our commitment to championing founder-led businesses in the healthcare sector,” said Matthew Mellon, investment director at Phoenix. “Medmark is the market leader in the Irish occupational health and wellness market . . . and we look forward to working closely with [the management] to realise the next phase of Medmark’s growth.”
