Switzerland: Reinsberg strengthens operating table offering with Schaerer Medical

-

Reinsberg Group, a European group of medical technology companies owned by Czechia-based investment firm BHM group, has acquired Schaerer Medical Schweiz, a manufacturer of premium mobile operating tables and specialised orthopaedic accessories. The acquisition strengthens Reinsberg’s operating table offering, brings further specialised expertise in orthopaedics and spinal surgery, and establishes a direct presence for the Reinsberg Group in the Swiss market.

“Schaerer Medical represents exactly the type of company we want to add to the Reinsberg Group portfolio – an established European manufacturer with in-house development capabilities, strong know-how and a long-standing track record,” said Jan Izák, chairman of the Reinsberg Group. “The acquisition therefore represents another important step in building a strong European medical technology group with international reach.”

Schaerer Medical Schweiz, founded in 1892, is present in more than 75 countries through an international network of sales and service partners. Its product portfolio complements Reinsberg’s existing offering.

“Schaerer Medical will significantly strengthen our capabilities in the operating room segment,” said Dr Markus Keussen, CEO of Reinsberg Group.

Reinsberg already offers a broad range of technologies and equipment for operating rooms – from operating tables and surgical lights to modular operating room infrastructure and ceiling-mounted systems, as well as solutions for operating room integration and healthcare IT. Schaerer Medical Schweiz will further expand this offering, particularly in the field of mobile operating tables for orthopaedics and spinal surgery. Its service capabilities and international network of sales and service partners will also strengthen Reinsberg’s commercial reach across international markets.

“Joining the Reinsberg Group marks an important milestone in Schaerer Medical’s long history,” said Reto Sieber, CEO of Schaerer Medical Schweiz. “We are excited about the future and look forward to contributing our expertise to the continued growth of the Reinsberg Group,”

Reinsberg currently generates combined annual revenues of more than €150m (US$175m), employs over 850 people, and has a distribution network spanning five continents.

The Schaerer Medical acquisition represents another step in Reinsberg’s strategy to build a European group of manufacturers of medical technologies and comprehensive solutions for hospitals and other healthcare facilities. In July, it expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of Spain-based Tedisel Medical, and in February, it completed the acquisition of Rein Medical, a Germany-based provider of healthcare IT solutions and video management for hospitals and clinics.

In addition to healthcare technologies, BHM is active in renewable energy, real estate, laboratory infrastructure, and venture capital.

Wenger Plattner (Oliver Künzler, Valérie Berger, Luca M Henn, Noah Mäder) advised Schaerer Medical.
