Magna MedTech Group, a Southeast Europe-focused healthcare distribution platform in which Emma Capital, a Czech private investment holding, holds a 65% stake, has acquired a 70% stake in RSR Group, a Bulgaria-based distributor of medical equipment and technology, from founder Racho Ribarov.
The transaction closed on 23 September. Terms were not disclosed.
Ribarov, who retains a 30% stake and will continue to lead the company, founded RSR in 1994, since when the company has grown into Bulgaria’s market leader in healthcare distribution, generating annual turnover of around €70m (US$79m).
“This acquisition makes Bulgaria a core market for the group and extends our reach,” said Kostas Tzanidakis, group CEO of Magna MedTech. “Above all, RSR brings an experienced and dedicated team.”
RSR operates across five divisions – Surgery, Diabetes Care, Interventional Cardiology and Electrophysiology, Laboratory and Ophthalmology – with Surgery (33%) and Diabetes Care (22%) the largest by revenue. The group employs around 160 people through eight offices covering Bulgaria, plus subsidiaries in Romania, North Macedonia, Kosovo, Croatia and a new office in Albania.
Michal Houšť, a partner at EMMA Capital, said the deal meets “all the criteria we set ourselves: we are becoming the leader in the Bulgarian market, which we only served marginally until now, while also strengthening our position in other countries within our key region.”
RSR is Magna MedTech’s fourth acquisition in Southeast Europe, following Magna Pharmacia in Serbia (2024), Diamedix Group in Romania (2025) and Urion in Montenegro (2025). Following completion, the group’s turnover is split Serbia 51%, Romania 22%, Bulgaria 22%, Montenegro 4% and other countries 1%.
