UK/Singapore: GHO and CBC merging to create world’s largest healthcare investor

-

London-based European specialist healthcare investor, GHO, and CBC Group, an Asian healthcare-focused asset manager, are merging to create the world’s largest dedicated healthcare investment manager, with over US$21bn in AUM.

The new firm will support companies to develop and internationalise healthcare solutions, spanning pharmaceuticals, medical devices, life science tools, diagnostics, healthcare infrastructure, and healthcare IT. It will also be well placed to offer investors access to private equity, private credit and real estate assets focused on healthcare and life sciences.

The combination, which will have more than 200 investment and operating professionals across 13 offices in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, will be led by Mike Mortimer, co-founder of GHO, and Fu Wei, co-founder of CBC. Andrea Ponti and Alan MacKay will assume board responsibilities for oversight of group finance and group governance, respectively. The board will be co-chaired by Lady Mireille Gillings, vice chair and co-founder of GHO, and Fu Wei.

The synergy-driven merger came about as it leverages complementary investment strategies and capitalises on high-growth, innovation-led opportunities across the largest healthcare markets. It reflects healthcare becoming increasingly interconnected globally, with innovation driving investment opportunities across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, which collectively account for around 90% of global healthcare R&D spend.

The Asian market is highly complementary to GHO’s existing strategy in Europe and the US. As the world’s first truly global specialist healthcare investment firm, it gives GHO a significant edge when sourcing its future portfolio.

The transaction is expected to close in early 2027. Existing funds will continue under their current brands until the merger closes.
