Switzerland: Medartis Group establishes its first surgical education centre in the US with acquisition of MARC Institute

-

The Medartis Group, a Switzerland-headquartered manufacturer of medical devices for surgical fixation of bone fractures, has acquired the MARC Institute in Florida, US, one of the largest surgical training and bioskills research facilities in the world. The institute will retain its name and continue to operate under its existing leadership in partnership with the International Bone Research Association (IBRA)

Founded in 2008, the MARC Institute operates 36 fully equipped surgical stations and can host up to 140 participants at one time. It supports training and research in orthopaedics and other medical specialties, spanning R&D and student education.

“The US is a priority market for us and our fastest-growing region,” said Matthias Schupp, CEO of Medartis. “Having our own training centre there is a logical next step as we continue to invest in our two strategic pillars: innovation and education.”

Surgical training has been central to Medartis as surgeons tend to adopt a system once they have worked with it themselves. Medartis intends to invest in modernising the centre. Its programmes and day-to-day operations will continue under the leadership of general manager Heloise Peixoto.

“We are pleased to join the Medartis Group network,” said Al Weinstein, co-founder and former CEO of the MARC Institute. “Supported by planned investment in our infrastructure [we will] expand the range of courses the centre can offer.”
