Germany: Fresenius invests in Avelios Medical and further expands its strategic partnership with SAP

-

Fresenius, a global, therapy-focused healthcare company, together with SAP, is investing in Avelios Medical, a Munich-based company developing a next-generation, cloud-native hospital information system.

The deal builds on the partnership between Fresenius and SAP. In January this year, the companies announced plans to accelerate innovation for stronger digital healthcare delivery, with the intention of creating a digital backbone for a sovereign, interoperable, and AI-supported healthcare system. The idea is to provide an open, integrated, and data‑driven digital health ecosystem that enables hospitals and medical facilities worldwide to use AI securely and to handle health data responsibly.

“We are bringing together what Germany and Europe need in healthcare: medical excellence, technological strength, and the sovereign use of digitalisation and AI,” said Christian Pawlu, COO of Fresenius Helios. “With our investment in Avelios Medical, we are taking another step in building a digital healthcare ecosystem—interoperable, reliable, and AI-ready.”

Investing in Avelios Medical forms a key part of this ecosystem. Avelios Medical is developing a modular hospital information system that enables end-to-end digitalisation of clinical and administrative processes and is based on open standards. The solution allows for sovereign data usage, high interoperability, and the responsible integration of AI applications, which creates a scalable platform that relieves care teams, harmonises processes, and accelerates the adoption of innovation.

“With SAP and Fresenius, we are bringing leading technological and clinical expertise to the table – and taking a decisive step toward an open ecosystem for the healthcare industry,” said Christian Albrecht, co-founder and CEO of Avelios.
