Germany: DHCare taking next step in European mobility solutions with agreement to carve out Ottobock’s Human Mobility division

-

DHCare, an international leader in designing, manufacturing and distributing medical devices in the mobility and post-acute care sectors, has signed a definitive agreement to carve out and acquire the Human Mobility division of Ottobock, a global provider of complex power wheelchairs and specialist mobility solutions.

DHCare was formed in February once Rhône, a global private equity firm, completed and combined the acquisitions of Invacare Holdings and Direct Healthcare Group (DHG).

“The complementary strengths of both organisations, in product, geography, and clinical expertise, will allow DHCare to support our valued customers, dealer partners, and end users in more ways, and to a significantly higher standard and benefit, than either business could achieve alone,” said Patrick Mundt, managing director at Rhône.

The planned acquisition would represent DHCare’s first under its new ownership structure.

“This acquisition marks an important milestone for DHCare . . . and one that sets a clear direction of travel for this business,” said Graham Ewart, CEO of DHCare. “By bringing Ottobock Human Mobility into DHCare, we are taking a meaningful step towards our ambition of not only being Europe’s leading provider of mobility solutions, but doing so by supporting our clinicians, dealer partners, and end users with high quality, clinically proven solutions, and best-in-class technical support and after-sales service.”

Ottobock’s Human Mobility platform brings strength in Complex Power Wheelchair provision as well as a significant presence in the DACH region, complementing DHCare’s existing pan-European footprint and creating a strong, more geographically balanced group.

“By selling our wheelchair business, we are sharpening our strategic focus on our core business,” said Oliver Jacobi, CEO of Ottobock. “At the same time, with DHCare we have found the right investor for Human Mobility. We are convinced that Human Mobility has the best opportunities for growth in its new environment.”

Ottobock’s Human Mobility division had been earmarked as non-core to the company along with A4 Access (divested in January 2024), Cascade Orthopedic Supply (divested in September 2024), Active Life Health (closed down in December 2024) and Orthopedic Services (designated for exit).

Financial terms have not been disclosed.
